Certain bird species are known pests. The main one being the feral pigeon (Columba Livia).

Birds can be a potentially serious health risk and also cause extensive damage to buildings which in turn can lead to expensive repairs.

  • Ornithosis can be passed directly from bird to man
  • Birds can carry diseases such as Listeria and salmonella
  • Contamination of products/stock/stored goods
  • Nests can block guttering and chimneys
  • Droppings cause chemical erosion
  • Nests can harbour insect pests
  • Droppings look unsightly and have an unpleasant odour

Buildings can be proofed against birds with techniques such as: netting, posts and wire, spike systems, repellent gel etc. Each pest bird requires a different technique. Most of these techniques are unobtrusive and barely visable from the ground.
